Teacher registration and standards
The Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) regulates Queensland's teaching industry to ensure teachers:
- are registered
- have appropriate qualifications
- are suitable to teach
- have current skills and practices.
Registration services
You must be registered with the QCT to legally teach at a Queensland school. The QCT website lets you manage all your teaching registration needs.

Teaching standards
The QCT is also responsible for:
- teacher registration—the QCT assesses qualifications and suitability to teach and conducts criminal history checks
- teacher compliance—teachers and schools are investigated annually, so only approved teachers can be employed
- teacher education—includes professional development for new and existing teachers
- professional conduct—all teachers must abide by the QCT discipline and enforcement criteria
- granting permission to teach—for unregistered teachers when no appropriate registered teacher is available—it is usually granted for no more than 2 years.
